We are happy to announce that Huhtamaki has received a B score in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for Climate, Forests, and Water Scarcity for the third consecutive year. This score reflects our commitment to sustainability and minimizing our environmental impact and that we keep improving our performance as the expectations grow each year.
Over the years, we have implemented several initiatives to reduce our negative and increase our positive environmental and social impact, including investing in renewable energy through Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs), setting Science-Based Targets for Climate, and reducing waste.
Our success is largely due to our focus on sustainable materials and product design. We have made significant progress in developing sustainable packaging solutions that are recyclable, compostable, or made from renewable materials. This focus has not only reduced our environmental impact but has also positioned us to meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions, so that we have been able to help our customers meet their sustainability ambitions.
Our overall business strategy reflects our commitment to sustainability. We have set ambitious targets to reduce our GHG emissions and increase our use of renewable energy. By 2030, we aim to operate on 100% renewable electricity. In 2023, we have already realized significant improvements, including the North American VPPA coming online. Another example of progress towards our 2030 targets is our progress towards zero waste to landfill which we have made progress in by many sites increasing their waste recycling shares.
Our focus on sustainable materials and product design, coupled with our targets for reducing carbon emissions, are critical factors that have contributed to our success. As a global packaging company, our efforts to promote sustainability are making a positive impact on the environment.
